Landline duty
The measure
A new landline duty will be set at a level of 50p per telephone line per month.
Who will be affected?
It is likely to affect all households and businesses with a landline.
When?
The new duty will be introduced from 1 October 2010.
Our view
The duty is expected to raise £175 million in 2010/11. The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills is due to consult on the implementation of the Landline Duty shortly, and the result of this consultation should clarify outstanding questions around the operation of the duty.
