Customs' Powers
The measure
Changes to HMRC's powers are being introduced which will allow Officers to check with travellers whether they are moving between Member States or are in fact entering the UK from outside the EU, without having to have reasonable grounds for checking.
The measure will also allow Officers to make selective checks to collect customs duties or enforce import prohibitions and restrictions without having to demonstrate reasonable grounds for doing so.
Who will be affected?
International travellers.
When?
When the Finance Bill receives Royal Assent.
This will significantly strengthen the powers of Customs and the UK Border Agency to check international travellers.
