Chancellor’s VAT cut puts e-reading on the same page as physical counterparts

11 March 2020

Glen Harling, tax litigation partner at Deloitte, commented:

“The Chancellor’s announcement that the Government intends to introduce the zero-rate of VAT to digital publications including e-books, e-newspapers and other e-reading materials with effect from 1 December will be welcome news to the publishing industry, which has long been campaigning for parity between printed and digital publications.

“This will provide a welcome and much needed boost for the industry which has seen a rapid shift in the way it provides content to the population, with significant advancements in technology in recent years.”
